Māhoe is endemic to NZ. It is also known as whitewood, is an attractive tree that produces dark green, serrated leaves. It flowers in early summer and produces beautifully scented blooms that turn into dark violet berries. These berries are a great food source for native birds and insects.
It is commonly found in coastal, lowland, and lower montane (300-800m above see level) forests throughout the New Zealand.
