Japanese Cedar - Native to Japan, cryptomeria is a very large evergreen tree. Adult height is about 60 m (200ft) / 4 m (13ft) in trunk diameter. The wood is very fragrant, reddish-pink colour, light but strong, waterproof and resistant to decay. Used in interior in panelling and a favoured construction tree. It is also used as a feature or ornamental tree.
It grows in deep forests, well-drained soil (warm to moist conditions) - fast growing in these conditions.
