Mikoikoi / New Zealand iris (Libertia ixioides)
A hardy, clump-forming native perennial with narrow, sword-like leaves. Its green foliage often develops distinctive yellow to golden tones in full sun. Pure-white, three-petalled flowers appear among the foliage from spring to early summer, followed by decorative orange seed capsules.
Growing approximately 50 cm tall and up to 1 m wide, it is ideal for mass planting, ground cover, borders, containers and coastal gardens. Plant in full sun for stronger foliage colour and flowering, or partial shade, in well-drained soil. It tolerates wind, coastal conditions, frost and short dry periods once established but dislikes waterlogged ground. Remove old flower stems and divide crowded clumps as needed.
