Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Ayesha’, commonly known as Popcorn Hydrangea, is a deciduous shrub grown for its distinctive rolled, spoon-shaped florets and rounded flower heads. This hydrangea produces unusual blooms in shades of pink or blue depending on soil pH, flowering through summer. The glossy green foliage provides a strong backdrop to the textured flower heads. Hydrangeas grow best in partial shade with moist, well-drained soil and benefit from regular watering. Suitable for many New Zealand gardens, it is commonly used for borders, feature planting and cottage-style gardens.
Key difference: Spoon-shaped “popcorn” florets in rounded blooms.
