Stenocarpus sinuatus is an evergreen tree grown for its distinctive red wheel-shaped flowers and attractive glossy foliage. This Australian native forms a medium-sized tree with deeply lobed dark green leaves and striking flower clusters that appear in summer. The unusual blooms form a circular “firewheel” shape, giving the tree its common name. Stenocarpus sinuatus grows best in warm, frost-free or sheltered locations with well-drained soil and protection from strong winds. In suitable climates it is used as a feature tree in gardens, parks and larger landscapes where its unique flowers can be appreciated.
