Blueberry Maru is a proven, heavy-cropping variety ideal for warmer districts, performing best from Waikato northwards. Harvesting from late February through to mid-April, it extends the blueberry season with reliable late-summer to autumn production. Maru has an upright growth habit and may benefit from bud thinning to prevent over-cropping and maintain berry size. With an estimated chill requirement of 400–600 hours, it suits northern New Zealand conditions and is generally untroubled by frost in these regions. The plant produces large, dark blue berries with good flavour when fully ripe, making it excellent for fresh eating, baking, preserves and freezing.
