Vibrance pōhutukawa (Metrosideros excelsa ‘Vibrance’)

A selected pōhutukawa with a dense, upright and relatively compact habit. Its leathery green leaves have attractive silver-grey undersides, while exceptionally large, vibrant red flowers appear from early to midsummer, providing nectar for tūī, bees and other wildlife.

Growing approximately 8 m tall and 5 m wide over ten years, it suits suburban gardens, coastal landscapes, avenues and street planting. Plant in full sun in well-drained soil and water regularly while establishing. Mature trees tolerate wind, salt spray, dry periods and relatively poor soils. Protect young plants from hard frost and allow sufficient space for their long-term growth.

Native origin: New Zealand native cultivar selected at Waiomu on the Coromandel Peninsula
Plant type: Evergreen native tree
Companion Plants: New Zealand flaxes, coastal hebes, coprosmas, karo and rengarenga lilies.

Key difference: Exceptionally large red flowers on a dense, upright tree. Compact pōhutukawa for coastal gardens, streets and suburban landscapes.
