Golf Ball dwarf kōhūhū (Pittosporum tenuifolium ‘Golf Ball’)
A compact evergreen shrub with small, fresh-green leaves held densely on fine stems. It naturally develops a neat, rounded shape, requiring little trimming to maintain its distinctive ball-like form.
Growing approximately 60 cm tall and wide, and potentially approaching 1 m with age, it is ideal for low hedges, formal borders, pathway edging, topiary and containers. Plant in full sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly while establishing and during extended dry periods. Once settled, it tolerates wind, frost and coastal conditions. Lightly trim in spring or summer if a more formal shape is desired, avoiding heavy pruning into old wood.
Native origin: Cultivar of the New Zealand-native Pittosporum tenuifolium
Plant type: Dwarf evergreen shrub
Companion Plants: Libertia, dwarf hebe, green carex, liriope and black mondo grass.
Key difference: Naturally forms a rounded globe with minimal clipping. Compact evergreen shrub for low hedges, formal borders, topiary and containers.
