Kirk’s coprosma (Coprosma × kirkii) is a low-growing evergreen perennial shrub and a New Zealand-native hybrid of sand coprosma and taupata. It develops long, prostrate branches that form a dense mat of small, glossy green leaves. Its spreading stems may root where they touch the ground, helping stabilise banks and slopes. Small, inconspicuous flowers may be followed by pale fruit.
Kirk’s coprosma is suitable for ground cover, coastal gardens, rockeries, retaining walls and erosion control. Plant in full sun or partial shade in well-drained soil. Water while establishing; once settled, it tolerates dry conditions, wind and coastal exposure.
