Lagunaria patersonia, commonly known as Norfolk Island Hibiscus, is an evergreen tree grown for its large pink hibiscus-like flowers and dense rounded canopy. This tree produces soft pink blooms with darker centres from summer into autumn, adding seasonal colour. The glossy green leaves provide year-round structure and contrast. Lagunaria grows best in full sun with well-drained soil and tolerates coastal conditions, wind and salt exposure. Suitable for many New Zealand coastal and warm-climate gardens, it is commonly used as a street tree, shade tree and shelter planting.
