Aute or shrubby veronica (Hebe diosmifolia, accepted name Veronica diosmifolia) is an evergreen perennial shrub endemic to northern New Zealand. It forms a bushy, upright plant with narrow, dark-green leaves. Abundant flowers open mauve-blue and gradually fade to white, appearing mainly from late winter through spring and attracting beneficial insects.
Growing approximately 70 cm tall and wide in cultivation, aute suits low hedges, borders, native gardens and coastal planting. Grow in full sun or partial shade in free-draining soil. Water regularly while establishing. It tolerates coastal conditions and frost and can be lightly trimmed after flowering to maintain compact growth.
