Cultivar spelling correction: ‘Bettridge Rose’, not ‘Beadride Rose’.
Bettridge Rose mānuka (Leptospermum scoparium ‘Bettridge Rose’) is a compact evergreen shrub with fine, reddish-bronze foliage and masses of double burgundy-red flowers. Blooming mainly in early spring, with further flowers possible in autumn, it provides rich colour and useful stems for floral arrangements.
Growing approximately 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide, it suits native gardens, mixed borders, informal hedges and feature planting. Grow in full sun for the best flowering and foliage colour, in free-draining soil. Water regularly while establishing; mature plants tolerate moderate drought and frost. Lightly trim after flowering to maintain density, avoiding hard cuts into old bare wood.
Native origin: Species indigenous to New Zealand and southeastern Australia; cultivar origin is not reliably documented
Plant type: Evergreen perennial shrub
Companion Plants: Koromiko, coprosma, libertia, native carex and rengarenga lily.
Key difference: Double burgundy flowers with bronze-toned foliage. Compact mānuka providing year-round structure and rich seasonal colour.
