Black Magic dwarf flax (Phormium ‘Black Magic’)
A compact New Zealand-bred flax with narrow, glossy leaves in deep purple-black to near-black tones. It forms a dense, upright clump that provides strong architectural shape and year-round colour without taking up much garden space.
Growing approximately 30 cm tall and wide, it is ideal for containers, low borders, pathway edging, mass planting and modern landscapes. Plant in full sun for the darkest foliage colour, using moist but well-drained soil. Water regularly while establishing and during prolonged dry periods. It tolerates frost, wind and coastal conditions once established. Remove old or damaged leaves at their base to keep the clump tidy.
Native origin: New Zealand-bred cultivar derived from native Phormium species

Companion Plants: Silver astelias, hebes, libertias, green carex and colourful coprosmas.
Key difference: Jet-black foliage in a compact dwarf form. Compact dark flax for pots, borders, mass planting and bold year-round contrast.
