Golden Ray New Zealand flax (Phormium ‘Golden Ray’)
A colourful evergreen flax with broad, arching leaves featuring a vibrant golden-yellow centre and contrasting green margins. Its dense, upright clump provides bold architectural form and reliable year-round colour. Mature plants may also produce tall flower stems during summer.
Growing approximately 1–1.5 m tall and wide, it suits mixed borders, coastal gardens, mass planting and large containers. Plant in full sun or partial shade in fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly while establishing and during prolonged dry periods. Once established, it tolerates frost, wind, coastal exposure and moderately dry conditions. Remove old or damaged leaves at their base to maintain a tidy appearance.
Native origin: Cultivar derived from New Zealand-native Phormium species
