Wrinkled Blue kōhūhū (Pittosporum tenuifolium ‘Wrinkled Blue’)

An upright evergreen shrub or small tree with distinctive silver-blue leaves held on slender, near-black stems. The small leaves have crinkled surfaces and gently wavy edges, creating attractive texture, movement and year-round colour.

Growing approximately 4 m tall and 2 m wide when untrimmed, it is ideal for narrow hedges, privacy screens, feature planting and modern native gardens. Plant in full sun for the strongest blue-grey colouring or partial shade, in fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly during its first growing season. Once established, it tolerates wind, coastal exposure, frost and moderate drought. Trim in late spring or summer to encourage dense growth and control its size.

Native origin: Cultivar of the New Zealand-native Pittosporum tenuifolium
Plant type: Evergreen native shrub or small tree
Companion Plants: Libertia, black mondo grass, green carex, dark loropetalum and red-leaved flax.

Key difference: Crinkled silver-blue leaves contrast against slender black stems. Narrow evergreen tree with blue-grey foliage for hedges, screens and features.
