Gardening Guide: Radiata Pine

The pine radiata plants are grown from Proseed’s ‘Stand Select’ seed - "Stand Select" is from selected stands planted in Kaingaroa Forest in the Central North Island. They are grown by Awapuni Nurseries, Manawatu region suitable for growing radiata pine.

This is New Zealand’s most important popular commercial timber 
tree. Radiata will tolerate a very wide range of soils and 
climatic conditions. It can be survive in coastal regions and low to high rainfall conditions. The timber is soft, easily worked, versatile and 
though not durable, takes treatment very well.  

Radiata pine grows quickly, up to 60 meters high and 2m in diameter. Plant in free draining or moderately free draining soil. Radiata pine can survive in warm to cold conditions. It can handle strong wind.
