Poplar Shinsei 100 Seedlings
Poplar ‘Shinsei’ – Fast-Growing Hybrid Poplar
(Populus nigra × Populus maximowiczii A.Henry)
A New Zealand-bred hybrid poplar selected for shelter belts, windbreaks, erosion control and timber production. ‘Shinsei’ develops a straight trunk and narrow crown with dark green, crinkled foliage. It leafs early in spring and shows good resistance to leaf rust and anthracnose, with low possum palatability.
Growing conditions: Full sun, fertile well-drained soils; tolerates wind and seasonal moisture.
Origin: NZ-bred cultivar (not endemic).
Grown in T50 trays (140cc rootball).
Propagated from hardwood cuttings. Plant deeply at installation to promote strong root development and stability — bury most of the stem cutting below soil level, leaving only the top section exposed. Firm soil well after planting.
