Annabelle smooth hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens ‘Annabelle’) is a deciduous perennial shrub with a rounded, bushy habit and broad green leaves. Large spherical flower heads, reaching approximately 25 cm across, emerge pale green before turning creamy white in summer and fading to tan. The blooms are useful for fresh or dried arrangements.
Growing approximately 1.5–2.5 m tall and wide, ‘Annabelle’ suits cottage gardens, mixed borders, mass planting and woodland edges. Grow in partial shade or full sun where the soil remains reliably moist. It prefers fertile, moist but well-drained soil and regular watering during dry weather. Flowers develop on new growth, so established plants can be pruned in late winter or early spring.
