Paris mophead hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Paris Rapa’) is a compact deciduous shrub with glossy green foliage and large, rounded flower heads. Its richly coloured blooms are rose-pink to deep raspberry-red, appearing from summer into autumn and lasting well when cut.
Growing approximately 60–90 cm tall and wide, it is well suited to containers, edging, small gardens and shaded borders. Plant in partial shade or morning sun, in fertile, humus-rich soil that remains moist but well drained. Water regularly during dry periods and shelter from strong winds and harsh afternoon sun. Prune lightly after flowering to preserve established stems and future flower buds.
Native origin: Cultivar selected in Germany in 1994; species native to Japan—not native to New Zealand
