Pee Wee dwarf oakleaf hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia ‘Pee Wee’) is a compact deciduous shrub valued for its deeply lobed, oak-like leaves. Upright white flower panicles appear in summer and gradually blush pink, while the foliage develops rich bronze, burgundy and purple tones in autumn. Peeling cinnamon-brown bark adds winter interest.
Growing approximately 1 m tall and wide, it suits smaller gardens, woodland borders, containers and low informal hedges. Plant in partial shade or gentle sun, in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Mulch to keep the roots cool and water during dry periods. Flowers form on older wood, so prune only lightly after flowering.
