Princess Anne mānuka (Leptospermum scoparium ‘Princess Anne’) is a compact, upright evergreen shrub with fine aromatic foliage and reddish young growth. Double white flowers with deep maroon centres appear from late winter through spring, creating a distinctive two-toned display.
Growing approximately 2 m tall and 1 m wide, it suits mixed native borders, low screening, informal hedges and feature planting. Grow in full sun or light partial shade in free-draining soil. Water regularly while establishing; mature plants tolerate frost, coastal exposure and moderate summer dryness. Lightly prune after flowering to maintain density, avoiding hard cuts into old bare wood.
Native origin: Cultivar introduced by Duncan & Davies Nursery, New Plymouth, in 1962; species indigenous to New Zealand and southeastern Australia
Plant type: Evergreen perennial shrub
Companion Plants: Koromiko, coprosma, corokia, libertia and native carex.
Key difference: Double white flowers with deep maroon centres. Upright evergreen mānuka for sunny hedges, coastal borders and feature planting.
