Jack Spratt dwarf New Zealand flax (Phormium tenax ‘Jack Spratt’)
One of the smallest flax cultivars, ‘Jack Spratt’ forms a neat clump of narrow, slightly twisting leaves. Its rich bronze, reddish-brown and dark chocolate tones provide year-round colour and compact architectural form.
Growing approximately 40–60 cm tall and wide, it is ideal for smaller gardens, edging, rockeries, mass planting and containers. Plant in full sun for the deepest foliage colour or partial shade, in fertile, free-draining soil. Water regularly while establishing and during extended dry periods. This hardy, low-maintenance flax tolerates wind, light frost and coastal conditions. Remove old or damaged leaves at the base.
Native origin: Cultivar of the New Zealand-native Phormium tenax
