Rainbow Maiden New Zealand flax (Phormium tenax ‘Rainbow Maiden’)
A colourful evergreen flax forming a compact, upright clump of broad, gently arching leaves. Bronze-green foliage is striped and flushed with salmon pink and dark red, providing warm colour throughout the year. Tall stems of nectar-rich red flowers may appear in summer.
Growing approximately 90 cm–1.2 m tall and around 1 m wide, it suits feature borders, coastal gardens, mass planting and large containers. Plant in full sun for the brightest colouring or partial shade, in fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly while establishing. Once settled, it tolerates wind, coastal exposure, light frost and short dry periods. Remove old leaves and spent flower stems at the base.
