Ruby Tuesday mountain flax (Phormium cookianum ‘Ruby Tuesday’)
A New Zealand-bred evergreen flax with broad, ruby-red to burgundy leaves that retain their strong colour as they mature. It forms a compact, rounded clump with a semi-upright habit, bringing bold year-round colour and architectural structure to the garden.
Growing approximately 1.3 m tall and 1 m wide, it suits feature borders, mass planting, coastal gardens and large containers. Plant in full sun for the richest foliage colour or partial shade, in fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly while establishing and during extended dry periods. It tolerates wind, coastal exposure and moderate frost. Remove damaged outer leaves at the base to maintain its tidy form.
Native origin: New Zealand-bred cultivar of native mountain flax, selected in Cambridge
