Sweet viburnum (Viburnum odoratissimum)
A fast-growing evergreen shrub or small tree with large, glossy, dark-green leaves and a naturally dense habit. Highly fragrant clusters of creamy-white flowers appear in spring, followed by red berries that mature to black and may attract birds.
Growing approximately 4–6 m tall and 3–4 m wide when untrimmed, it is ideal for hedges, privacy screens, shelter planting and specimen use. Plant in full sun for the best flowering or partial shade, in fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly while establishing and during extended dry periods. Once settled, it tolerates wind, coastal conditions and light frost. Trim after flowering or regularly through the growing season to maintain a dense hedge at the desired height.
