Brussels Sprouts
Brassica oleracea, Gemmifera Group
This good home garden variety of brussels sprouts is high in vitamin C.
Brussel sprouts are usually grown as a cool season plant. They can be planted around autumn for some harvest after 3-5 months from seedlings. They are heavy feeders and they need fertile, well-draining soil and adequate watering. They are high in protein, fiber, potassium, and even vitamin A.
You may plant them with sage, rosemary and alyssum.

- Rotate brassica (cauli, broccoli, kale etc) crops
- Add compost and lime to prevent club root
- Add general fertiliser (avoid nitrogen)
- Plant 50cm apart
- Mound soil up at the base as plants grow
- Pull off leaves below each sprout to encourage sprout growth
- Silverbeet
- Cauliflower
- Beetroot
- Pak choi
- Spring onions
