$8.50 SKU: LANCEW
This uniquely shaped New Zealand native is also called the Lancewood or Horoeka (Pseudopanax crassifolius). It's found all over New Zealand from sea level up to about 750 meters. The younger (juvenile) form, which lasts for around 15-20 years, is very easily recognised.
Lancewood grows up to about 4m (H) x 2m (W) in 10 years.
The leaves are leathery to touch and it has a distinct central brownish rib, 1 cm wide up to 1 m long with serrated edges. The young trunk has well-defined vertical swollen ridges. When the trees become older, that's when it forms into the more regular shape of a tree (with bushy tops and more branches).
