Poplar Geyles 100 Seedlings
Poplar ‘Geyles’ (NZ 5034) – Vigorous Hybrid Poplar
(Populus maximowiczii × Populus nigra)
A New Zealand-bred male hybrid poplar selected for timber, shelterbelts and erosion control. ‘Geyles’ forms a straight, narrow crown with strong apical dominance, dark green scalloped leaves and smooth bark. It delivers fast growth, with good wind and frost tolerance, performing reliably across inland and moist sites.
Growing conditions: Full sun, fertile well-drained soils.
Origin: NZ-bred cultivar (not endemic).
Grown in T50 trays (140cc rootball).
Propagated from hardwood cuttings. Plant deeply at installation to promote strong root development and stability — bury most of the stem cutting below soil level, leaving only the top section exposed. Firm soil well after planting.
