Cherokee Purple beefsteak tomato (Solanum lycopersicum ‘Cherokee Purple’)
Cherokee Purple is a popular heirloom beefsteak tomato producing large fruit weighing approximately 280–340 g. Its dusky pink-purple skin surrounds juicy brick-red flesh with a rich, sweet and slightly smoky flavour. It is excellent sliced into sandwiches, added to salads or enjoyed fresh.
This tomato variety crops over an extended period and requires strong staking to support its vines and heavy fruit. Plant in full sun after the risk of frost has passed, spacing plants approximately 60 cm apart in fertile, well-draining soil. Water consistently and feed regularly with tomato fertiliser. Fruit generally matures 80–90 days after transplanting.
