Antirrhinum Madame Butterfly
Not Available
Antirrhinums, commonly known as snapdragons, are classic cottage garden plants prized for their vibrant, uniquely-shaped flowers and long blooming period. They come in a wide range of colors and heights, from compact dwarfs to tall varieties suitable for the back of borders or as cut flowers. Snapdragons are attractive to pollinators and are easy to grow in most well-drained, fertile soils.
In New Zealand, they are grown ideally in autumn (March-April) and spring (August-October). However, in cooler regions in NZ, they can still be planted later in spring.
Snapdragons are cold-hardy and they can be planted out in relatively cool weather.
Choose a sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soil. Space plants 15–30 cm apart, typically.
Water regularly but avoid waterlogging. Regularly deadhead the flowers to encourage more blooms.
