Arenaria montana ‘Avalanche’ is a low-growing perennial groundcover grown for its masses of bright white star-shaped flowers and compact spreading habit. This alpine plant forms dense mats of small green leaves that become covered in blooms during late spring and early summer. The flowers create a carpet-like display that contrasts with the fine foliage. Arenaria grows best in full sun with well-drained soil and performs well in rock gardens and raised beds. Suitable for many New Zealand gardens, it is commonly used for edging, rock gardens and groundcover planting.
