Kassandra coral bells or alum root (Heuchera ‘Kassandra’) is a vigorous evergreen to semi-evergreen perennial forming a dense clump of large, ruffled leaves. New foliage emerges in warm caramel-orange tones, changing through bronze and maroon to reddish-pink from summer into autumn. Slender stems carry small white bell-shaped flowers above the foliage from spring into summer.
Growing approximately 40–50 cm tall and wide, with flower stems extending higher, ‘Kassandra’ suits shaded borders, containers, woodland gardens and underplanting. Grow in partial or dappled shade in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil. Water regularly while establishing and mulch annually without covering the crown. Remove tired foliage and divide older clumps when needed.
