Navel orange (Citrus sinensis ‘Navel’)
A productive, self-fertile evergreen citrus tree with glossy foliage and highly fragrant white flowers. It produces large, sweet and juicy oranges that are usually seedless, with an easy-to-peel rind and the distinctive navel-shaped formation at the base. The fruit is excellent for fresh eating or juicing.
Growing approximately 3–4 m tall and wide, it can be kept smaller through pruning or container growing. Plant in full sun in fertile, free-draining soil, sheltered from strong winds and hard frost. Water consistently during establishment, flowering and fruit development. Mulch around the root zone and feed with citrus fertiliser through spring and summer. Protect young trees from frost and prune lightly after harvest.
