Abutilon ‘Ashton’s Red’ is an evergreen flowering shrub valued for its pendulous deep red bell-shaped flowers and soft green maple-like foliage. This abutilon produces a long flowering display from spring through autumn, with blooms hanging beneath the foliage on slender stems. The flowers attract bees and other pollinators and add colour to sheltered garden areas. Abutilon grows best in full sun to partial shade with well-drained soil and protection from strong winds and heavy frost. Suitable for many New Zealand gardens in mild climates, it is commonly used for borders, cottage gardens and container planting.
