Abiqua Drinking Gourd plantain lily (Hosta ‘Abiqua Drinking Gourd’) is a deciduous, clump-forming perennial grown for its thick, dark blue-green foliage. The rounded leaves are deeply puckered and curve upwards into pronounced cup shapes, often revealing their powdery grey undersides. Upright stems carry white flowers during midsummer.
Growing approximately 40–45 cm tall and spreading 60–90 cm, it suits shaded borders, woodland gardens and underplanting shrubs. Grow in partial or full shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Water regularly during dry periods and shelter from drying winds. Its thick foliage offers some resistance to slug damage, although young leaves should still be monitored. The foliage dies back naturally in winter.
