Loyalist plantain lily (Hosta ‘Loyalist’) is a deciduous, clump-forming perennial with bold reverse-variegated foliage. Its thick leaves emerge with creamy-yellow centres in spring, becoming nearly pure white in summer while retaining broad, deep-green margins. Slightly twisted leaf tips add texture. Upright creamy stems carry pale lavender flowers during summer.
Growing approximately 40–50 cm tall and spreading 75–100 cm, ‘Loyalist’ suits shaded borders, woodland gardens, containers and groundcover planting. Grow in partial or dappled shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. Shelter it from harsh afternoon sun and drying winds. Water during dry periods and monitor new growth for slugs and snails. The foliage naturally dies back during winter.
