Valencia orange (Citrus sinensis ‘Valencia’)
A vigorous, self-fertile evergreen citrus tree with glossy green leaves and fragrant white spring flowers. It produces heavy crops of sweet, exceptionally juicy oranges with few or no seeds. The fruit ripens later than most navel oranges, extending the home citrus harvest into summer.
Growing approximately 3–4 m tall and wide, it is ideal for home orchards, lifestyle blocks and larger gardens. It can be maintained at a smaller size or grown in a large container. Plant in full sun in fertile, free-draining soil, sheltered from strong winds and hard frost. Water consistently during flowering and fruit development, mulch around the root zone and feed with citrus fertiliser through spring and summer.
Native origin: California, USA
Plant type: Evergreen fruit tree
Companion Plants: Lavender, rosemary, thyme, alyssum and marigolds.
Key difference: Late-season fruit delivers abundant sweet juice through summer. Productive evergreen citrus bearing sweet, high-juice oranges ideal for fresh eating and juicing.
